Life Imitates Art Imitates Life Ad Infinitum…
While exploring on Google Earth I had a strange unsettling moment when I thought for a second I was looking at a SecondLife picture. But it wasn’t an SL pic, but satellite pics from the real world – specically from Dubai in the Middle East.
And you’ve just got to admire the vision of the people of Dubai – they’re doing real life building that is common in Second Life but utterly unique in the outside world.
They’re building custom created Islands for sale to the (wealthy) public at large. The islands are in the shape of two Palm islands (built in the shape of palm trees of course), and they’re building a king size miniature version of the Earth out of many small islands (called The World naturally) – along with what can only be described as fantasy architecture to accompany the islands.
Is it Life imitating Art or vice versa? I suspect the whole arguement is entirely too circular to definitely say. How long will it be before someone builds a copy of this in SecondLife? I bet it happens.
