Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency by Douglas Adams

This is not strictly SL related, but Douglas Adams “The Hitchikers Guide To The Galaxy” has its fans in Second Life – I’ve seen models of “Marvin The Paranoid Android” (both in the form from the TV series and the recent rather badly done movie) and a model of the spaceship “The Heart Of Gold”, around the place.

So if you’ve emjoyed H2G2 in one of the many forms it’s taken over the years (radio, books, TV, Video Game, movie), you’ll probably enjoy this……

BBC Radio 4 is doing a 6 part adaptation of “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency” (“We solve the whole crime, we find the whole person….”) – Adams’ follow up project after doing H2G2 – and if you’re not usually a radio drama listener, don’t forget that H2G2 first appeared on Radio 4.

The show is directed by Dirk Maggs who directed the original radio version of H2G2, and stars comedian Harry Enfield as Dirk Gently. The shows go out at 6.30pm UK time on a Wednesday, and are available for listening on the BBC Listen Again service for a week after transmission.

Unfortunately the shows are broadcast using RealMedia streams, and if you’re one of those people that won’t have RealMedia on their computer, then join the club – I’m with you on this one. There is however an open source alternative to the standard RealMedia player that has none of the adware/spyware crap that Real installs on your computer, and it comes highly recommended (at least by me).
