I’ve Got A Particle Accelerator & I’m Not Afraid To Use It
You may have heard about the new particle accelerator that’s about to be started up at Cern – called the the Large Hadron Collider, it’s supposed to fill in the gaps in particle physics. But there’s been some speculation that the machine may create a black hole that will swallow the Earth. There’s even been a lawsuit to try and stop it by Walter Wagner, who runs a botanical garden on Hawaii’s Big Island, and Luis Sancho, who want a risk assesment doing before it’s been fired up.
This is a serious possibility, with consequences for us all, and so to investigate the matter, I built my own particle accelerator and cloud chamber in Second Life. And I’m glad to report that after starting it up, the virtual world has not been swallowed up by a black hole. And I may or may not have found the Higgs Boson, as the particles were far too busy doing their stuff to tell me their names.
Created as an experiment using the new Havok4 physics in Second Life.
